2011 Semiformalists Have More Fun

Presented by Louisiana Poet Laureate Julie Kane,
half-day 1 PM – 4 PM

Register for the 2011 WordShops

Some of the most exciting contemporary poets write in free verse much of the time but dip into the possibilities of poetic form when the mood strikes them. In this workshop, we will explore how experimenting with poetic form can "free up" new subjects, moods, styles, and voices for our poems, expanding our range as poets.

The materials covered will be suitable for all levels, from beginners to more experienced writers. Participants will create rough drafts of several poems that can be revised for publication after the workshop. Information will also be provided about which journals are "formal friendly" and how to go about getting published in them.
