James E. Michalik began writing Superhero Surtain as an evacuee of Katrina when his wife spotted her student pulled from the flood waters and completed it four weeks later to the hum of a generator upon returning. Michalik has counseled and taught for thirty years in New Orleans and directs Operation Upgrade, an academic program for gifted economically-disadvantaged students. Mr. Michalik and his wife, Lawren, continue to teach, live, love, laugh and invest in New Orleans with their four children.
